HOTSPOT REPORT #4
SOMALIA
This file supplies users of WORLD29 with a more detailed map of the
country of SOMALIA. A LOCation file which list the names of towns and
villages within the country.
SOMA29 is designed to allow you to more easily follow the movement of
our relief efforts and and that of others in the East African country of
SOMALIA. It takes advantage of the flexibility of WORLD29's by providing
specifics only when needed. Once the crisis is resolved you can remove no
longer needed the files to a floppy disk, freeing up hard disk space and
speeding the overall operation of the program.
This HOTSPOT REPORT includes TWO OVERLAY (.DAT) files. SOMALIA.DAT is
designed for use with WORLD29 version 2.9E1 and later while SOMALI1.DAT is
for use with WORLD29 version 2.9E and earlier. The difference in the two
files is that SOMALIA.DAT takes advantage of version 2.9E1's ability to
delete the preexisting map by overwriting it with black tracings. SOMALI1.DAT
is a simple overlay, the preexisting map is still visible below the more
detailed map.
The simplest way to use the HOTSPOT reports is to copy the .LOC and
.DAT file into the same directory as the WORLD29 program. When WORLD29 is
started you will be asked which "OVERLAY file to use?". The DEFAULT is
SUP.DAT (the provinces of CANADA) which was supplied with WORLD29. To utilize
the new file answer the question with SOMALIA.DAT (or SOMALI1.DAT) according
to the version of WORLD29 you are using. When asked "Loction file to use?"
respond by typing SOMALIA.LOC.
Once you have accomplished this the new files are an integral part of
WORLD29. The names of the cities and villages will now appear in the list
provided by option 7. Whenever you create a map which includes SOMALIA the
new OVELAY will appear and appropriate names will be displayed at your
command.
You can switch between HOTSPOT data files and to files that you
create by choosing option 14 from the WORLD29 main menu. When asked for the
"OVERLAY to use?" give the complete path (if the file is not in the default
directory) to your desired .DAT file. EG. if you keep the HOTSPOT files in a
HOTSPOT directory on the B: drive you would answer with
B:\HOTSPOT\SOMALIA.DAT and then hit the ENTER key.
In the case of the "Location file to use?" you might answer with
B:\HOTSPOT\SOMALIA.LOC. If the file is in the same directory as WORLD29 you
might respond with SOMALIA.LOC.
In all cases a DEFAULT response will be indicated in [] just above
the question. If you wish to accept the default you can simply hit the ENTER
key in response to the question.
You can unite all .DAT files or all .LOC into a single file if you
desire. Each of these files is an ASCII file and can be combined with the
COPY command.
Remember the way WORLD29 knows it is at the end of a .DAT file is to
find 99,99 immediately after a pen up 99,99 command. Therefore after the .DAT
files are combined you must edit the new file to remove the extra 99,99 s
between old files. Look for a sequence of 4 99s. They can be on the same line
as 99,99,99,99 or on seperate lines as 99,99 and 99,99. Just remove the
second pair at the end of each original file and leave the sequence of 4 99s
at the end of the unified file.
Be sure there are no blank lines. WORLD29 looks for pairs of numbers
and doesn't care about how many numbers pairs are in a line but doesn't
accept blank lines.
